Parish Life

There are many opportunities for involvement at Saint Ann’s.
Several committees within the parish serve to coordinate activities.

The Parish Life Committee:

The Parish Life Committee oversees four major areas of church life: Fellowship, Communication, The Welcome of Newcomers, and Pastoral Care. The committee’s charge is to help make Saint Ann’s a welcoming and open church, to increase in all our members an ever stronger sense of belonging, to meet the new and different needs of younger families and their children.

The Committee meets monthly the second Wednesday of the month at 9:30am.
Contact: Maryann Clancy (691-3352)

The Environmental Concerns Committee:

The Saint Ann’s Environmental Concerns Committee has been formed because we believe there is much more that we can and should do to “protect the integrity of God’s creation.”

The Environmental Concerns Committee will:
1) Assist in raising consciousness among ourselves as a parish, and the community as a whole, to the need for increased regard for the imperiled earth.
2) Lift up prayers in personal and public worship for environmental justice, human rights and sustainable
development.
3) Commit ourselves to energy conservation and the use of clean, renewable sources of energy
4) Reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.
5) Reuse, recycle, and as far as possible buy products from recycled materials.
6) Generate discussions which encourage environmental stewardship within our families, our parish, the communities in which we live, corporations and businesses in which we are involved, and local and national government.

We hope you will endorse our mission, participate in our efforts to emphasize positive steps that we can take to alleviate environmental damage, and offer recommendations on other programs which will reaffirm our roles as stewards of God’s abundant creation.

The Stewardship Committee:

The Stewardship Committee is composed of a diverse group of parishioners whose task is to engender within the congregation a more vibrant sense of what Christian stewardship means in the midst of today's cultural and economic climate. Theologically, stewardship is the intentional blending of gratitude and responsibility, giving and funding, worship and ethics. From this grounding, the Stewardship Committee directs the annual pledge appeal and it organizes ad hoc supplemental programs throughout the year.

The Stewardship Committee meets at 7:00pm on the second Thursday of each month.

The Women of St. Ann's:

The Episcopal Church Women (ECW) is the national organization of all women who are members of the Episcopal Church. The Saint Ann's chapter is organized under the name: the Women of Saint Ann’s (WSA). The WSA is deeply involved in outreach, and works within the parish both socially and spiritually, sponsoring frequent activities and events that enrich our common life together. Willing hearts and hands are always welcome.

The WSA governing Board meets monthly and is comprised of a President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Representatives of the Nearly New Shop and the church's Outreach Committee.

Outreach Committee:

A Vestry member is liaison to the Outreach Committee, which is responsible for the oversight, guidance, and development of a number of Saint Ann's outreach and mission activities. It meets on a monthly basis, reviewing current activity and exploring new projects. Broad parish involvement is highly encouraged.

Among our ongoing projects are the following.

Loaves and Fishes:

A variety of programs through which parishioners work locally to feed the hungry.

These programs include:
The Shoreline Soup Kitchen
The local Food Pantry
Meals for Covenant House in New London.

Haitian/Caribbean Outreach:

Haiti:

Saint Ann's parishioners regularly donate school and hospital supplies to Holy Trinity School and Saint Vincent's Hospital in Haiti. We have provided scholarships for needy Haitian children to attend Holy Trinity, and have provided other financial assistance to numerous organizations throughout the country.

The Dominican Republic:

Saint Ann’s periodically sends a work team of volunteers to impoverished areas in the Dominican Republic to join in mission work with the churches there. These intergenerational teams help us engage mission mutually with others, and through this work we gain a clearer perspective on the real needs and the real riches of others.

In addition we work to provide scholarships for needy youth in the Dominican Republic.
